Difficile che qualcuno non abbia mai assaggiato un buon risotto con lo zafferano. Avete presente quella “polvere” gialla, che basta versarla sugli alimenti e questi all’improvviso cambiano colore come per magia?! Bene, questa meravigliosa polvere “alchemica” proviene dal fiore di una straordinaria pianta, il “Crocus sativus”. Dalla stimma del fiore, si ricava poi questa magnifica spezia, lo zafferano, per l’appunto, di cui l’Abruzzo è uno dei principali produttori italiani. Ricco di vitamine A, B1, B2 e di numerosi Alfa Beta caroteni, lo zafferano è però una pianta la cui riproduzione è direttamente legata all’assistenza umana. Per questa ed altre ragioni di tipo folkloristico, come per altre colture, anche la raccolta dello zafferano, che avviene verso fine ottobre, è quindi una festa per l’intera comunità. “Intrecci di zafferano” è quindi un evento che si terrà nella Valle Subequana collegato alla raccolta delle stimme del fiore. Per quanti volessero quindi provare un fine settimana “alternativo”, possono unirsi insieme a noi all’insegna di una nuova esperienza fatta di gastronomia,tradizioni, racconti, lavori con la lana, passeggiate in luoghi “incantati”, fotografia e… meditazione, e tanto altro ancora!

INTRECCI DI ZAFFERANO 2018
Sarete i protagonisti di frammenti di storie che si ricompongono mentre i fili colorati si intrecciano.
“Intrecci di zafferano” nasce proprio dal desiderio di unire l’ospitalità ai racconti delle genti d’Abruzzo tessendo reti di amicizia e collaborazione con enti, associazioni e singoli professionisti che si occupano di fare risplendere due gioielli di queste terre: l’oro rosso e la lana.
Anche quest’anno vogliamo farvi vivere un’esperienza unica alla riscoperta delle tradizioni e dei sapori della Valle Subequana accogliendovi nella magica atmosfera del borgo medievale di San Pio di Fontecchio. Seguiremo il programma della nota manifestazione “Raccogli, conosci e degusta” (evento finalizzato a far rivivere l’esperienza della raccolta dello zafferano e far conoscere le virtù dell’oro rosso d’Abruzzo) arricchendolo con alcune “coccole” dedicate a chi sceglierà di trascorrere l’ultimo fine settimana di ottobre Alle Vecchie Querce.
Programma del fine settimana:
Venerdì 26 ottobre
Sera: Accoglienza alle case vacanza e passeggiata tra i vicoli e il parco di San Pio di Fontecchio.
È previsto un piccolo aperitivo di benvenuto offerto dalle Vecchie Querce.
Sabato 27 ottobre
Mattina
Dalle ore 7:00 alle ore 9:00: Attività previste dal programma “Raccogli, conosci e degusta” alla scoperta del rito dello zafferano. Potrete assistere alla seconda edizione del “Campionato della raccolta dello zafferano”: una sfida tra i produttori locali sull’arte di cogliere i magnifici fiorellini viola, velocità e precisione saranno gli elementi determinanti per stabilire il miglior raccoglitore dell’anno!
Dalle ore 9:30 alle ore 10:30: Rito della raccolta dello zafferano nell’orto delle Vecchie Querce accompagnati da Giorgio. I fiori di zafferano vanno raccolti a mano uno per uno tutte le mattine. È importante iniziare presto questa operazione perché i fiori vanno raccolti quando ancora sono semi-chiusi per non disperdere nemmeno uno dei preziosi pistilli rossi!
Dalle ore 10:30 alle 12:00: Il rito della “sfioratura” alle Vecchie Querce. Si tratta di rivivere la tradizione di levare i 3 pistilli rossi al fiore dello zafferano e riporli tutti in un setaccio. Con il calore del caminetto i pistilli si essiccano e si trasformano in “oro rosso”.
Pranzo
Dalle ore 12:00 in poi: Giorgio e Stefania vi offriranno alcuni pistilli e vi faranno trovare nella vostra casetta alcune ricette sfiziose e di semplice preparazione. Ognuno porterà ciò che ha cucinato o contribuirà in altro modo al pranzo, che rappresenterà un momento di convivialità e di condivisione tra noi e tutti i nostri meravigliosi ospiti.
Pomeriggio: Attività presso la torre medievale di Fontecchio
Dalle 15 alle 16: Meditazione ed esercizi di biodinamica con Rossella
Dalle ore 16:00 alle 17:00: Visita guidata della torre medievale di Fontecchio e dello “Spazio della memoria”;
Dalle ore 17:00 alle 18:00: Laboratorio dimostrativo di tintura naturale della lana a cura di Antonella Marinelli presso la Torre di Fontecchio (adatto a persone di tutte le età anche bambini). Per la tintura verranno utilizzati fiori di zafferano e il vino montepulciano.
Riceverete una brochure esplicativa (per i bambini il materiale sarà preparato con un linguaggio adatto a loro). Inoltre, avrete in omaggio alcuni bellissimi campioni di filato già tinto;
Dalle ore 18:00 alle ore 19:00: Laboratorio dimostrativo di realizzazione di bracciali e collane di lana con la tecnica del finger knitting a cura di lanae.co presso la Torre di Fontecchio (adatto a persone di tutte le età anche bambini). Numero minimo di partecipanti 10 persone.
Sera:
Dalle 19:30 in poi Cena presso uno dei ristoranti delle Vie dello Zafferano che propone menù di degustazione completo a base di Zafferano all’interno della manifestazione “Raccogli, Conosci e Degusta 2018”.

Ore 9:00- 12:00: Raccolta dello zafferano presso uno dei soci delle Vie dello Zafferano e sfioratura collettiva
Pranzo e pomeriggio
Dalle 12:30 in poi: “Raccogli, conosci e degusta 2018” a San Pio delle Camere organizzato dall’Associazione Le Vie dello Zafferano: sagra con degustazione di prodotti tipici e piatti a base di zafferano.
ll prezzo delle due giornate, come riportato nel programma che segue, è di euro 110 a persona. Per chi non avesse possibilità di prendere parte all’intero evento, o che comunque non intende alloggiare in zona, potrà comunque partecipare alle varie attività che si terranno, pagando solo l’importo dovuto per ogni singola attività.

Due ragazzi che stanno realizzando un sogno. Abbiamo la fortuna di gestire otto splendide case vacanze diffuse nel borgo medievale di San Pio di Fontecchio (a mezz’ora dall’Aquila) immerso nel Parco Regionale Sirente Velino. Ci vuole coraggio e passione per fare ritornare all’antico splendore questo posto. I nostri ospiti non si aspettano una tale bellezza, una così preziosa attenzione e ospitalità. Consigli, mappe, suggerimenti su che cosa visitare, dove mangiare, quali percorsi per il trekking, la bici, la moto e poi potrete anche assaggiare le meraviglie dell’orto di Giorgio. I CAMPI DI MAIS
I Campi di mais è un sogno realizzato. Un posto dove con i fili si raccontano storie che possano riempire gli spazi lasciati vuoti dalla frenesia che ha invaso le nostre vite, ridare voce alle memorie mute e restituire nuova vita a capacità inutilizzate da tempo. Gli intrecci non sono fatti di numeri e simboli imprigionati in un foglio a quadretti, ma parlano del colore dei pascoli in montagna, dei rintocchi delle campane portati dall’eco, del frusciare degli alberi mossi dal vento. Ad Antonella piace far riemergere storie che avvolgano le persone che la ascoltano e le possano scaldare come una morbida mantella. Organizza corsi, work-shop, dimostrazioni, incontri culturali e ludico-educativi per grandi (perché non si finisce mai di imparare) e piccoli (perché si impara da piccoli a diventare grandi). Da sempre le attività manuali stimolano la creatività e la fantasia, rilassano la mente, abbassano i battiti cardiaci allontanando ansia e stress, migliorano la motricità, aiutano a non pensare al tempo che scorre e a rimettere a fuoco i nostri obiettivi.

Queste due giovani imprenditrici hanno fatto della territorialità il cardine di “Lanae.co” riuscendo a creare un prodotto (gioielli in lana e cotone) che racchiudesse fantasia, attenzione al dettaglio, che fosse alla moda, ma originale e, allo stesso tempo, che fosse legato alla tradizione e al territorio abruzzese per aiutare l’economia locale, seppur in piccolo. Non utilizzano nessuno strumento, neanche i ferri o l’uncinetto, ma solo l’abilità manuale di Valentina, che lavora totalmente a mano. Anche per eventuali applicazioni, ciondoli, pendenti o inserti, cercano di utilizzare solamente materiali naturali: legno, pietre dure, resina.
Oltre a bracciali e collane realizzano anche altri oggetti quali: portachiavi, segnalibri, coperture per manici e bordi delle borse tutto rigorosamente a chilometro zero, interamente in lana vergine, colorata con tinte naturali attraverso una lavorazione che avviene sul territorio abruzzese, dalla materia prima, fino al prodotto finito.

ABRUZZO FORTE E GENTILE
Abruzzo forte e gentile è un’associazione che nasce dall’idea di alcuni amici accomunati dalla stessa passione: L’Abruzzo e la ricerca storica-ambientale-culturale. L’Abruzzo non è solo una regione meravigliosa dal punto di vista ambientale essendo il “polmone verde d’Europa”, o storico, qui in questa regione venne coniata e utilizzata per la prima volta la parola “Italia” e sempre qui, in questa piccola-grande terra venne fondata la “prima capitale d’Italia”; ma questa terra è anche particolarmente intrigante per tutti i suoi risvolti popolari, fatta di tradizioni, leggende, miti, segreti e misteri. Per chi ama la ricerca quindi, questa regione si presenta come un “Paese delle meraviglie” purtroppo ancora poco noto a molti.
Una pagina Facebook, un blog che si arricchisce ogni giorno di occhi curiosi di conoscere e diffondere con grande passione ed orgoglio le meraviglie artistiche e naturalistiche d’Abruzzo…
Ma il nostro proposito è anche di riportare l’Uomo a riconoscersi nell’ambiente, non come elemento separato da esso, ma come suo diretto riflesso. Attraverso i diversi strumenti a nostra disposizione, il nostro proposito è quindi di diffondere la conoscenza del collegamento tra psiche e ambiente, al fine di favorire il benessere psicofisico dell’Uomo e il recupero del territorio.E in una missione che pone al centro “l’uomo”, pezzi della nostra storia, non andranno così a perdersi nelle pieghe del tempo.
Come diceva Mister Gerald in Via col vento “Oseresti dire, miss Rossella O’Hara, che la terra non conta nulla per te? Ma se è la sola cosa per cui valga la pena di lavorare, di lottare, di morire, perché è la sola cosa che duri!”

It is unlikely that someone has never tasted a good risotto with saffron. You know that yellow “powder”, that poured on food will suddenly change its color as if by magic ?! Well, this wonderful “alchemical” powder comes from the flower of a magnificent plant called “Crocus sativus”. From the pistils of the flower, you then get this magnificent spice, the saffron, precisely, of which Abruzzo is one of the main Italian producers. Rich in vitamins A, B1, B2 and numerous Alfa Beta carotenes, saffron is a plant whose reproduction is directly linked to human assistance. For this and other folkloristic reasons, as for other crops, also the saffron collection, which takes place towards the end of October, is therefore a party for the whole community. “Intrecci di zafferano” is therefore an event that will be held in Valle Subequana connected to the collection of the pistils of the flower. For all those who want to try an “alternative” weekend, you can join us to take part to a new experience made of gastronomy, traditions, stories, works with wool, walks in “enchanted” places, photography, … meditation , and so much more!
The price of the two days, as reported in the program that follows, is € 110 per person. For those who do not have the possibility to take part in the entire event, or who do not intend to stay in the area, you can anyway participate in the various activities that will be held, paying only the due amount.

INTERLACEMENTS OF SAFFRON 2018
You will be the protagonists of fragments of stories that are recomposed while the colored threads intertwine.
“Interlacements of saffron” was born from the desire to combine hospitality with the stories of the peoples from Abruzzo by weaving networks of friendship and collaboration with institutions, associations and individual professionals who deal with making two jewels of these lands shine: our red gold (saffron) and wool.
Also this year we want to make you live a unique experience to rediscover the traditions and flavors of the Subequana Valley welcoming you in the magical atmosphere of the medieval village of San Pio di Fontecchio. We will follow the program of the well-known event Raccogli, Conosci e Degusta (Collect, Know and Taste: an event aimed at reviving the experience of the saffron collection and spread the virtues of the red gold of Abruzzo) enriching it with some “cuddles” dedicated to those who will choose to spend the last weekend of October at Alle Vecchie Querce.
Here is the weekend programme:
Friday 26 October
Evening: Welcome to the holiday homes (spread in the lovely medieval village of San Pio di Fontecchio) and walk through the alleys and the park of San Pio di Fontecchio.
You will get a small welcome drink offered by “Alle Vecchie Querce”.
Saturday 27 October
Morning
– From 7.00 am to 9.00 am: Activities foreseen by the programme “Collect, know and taste” to discover the rite of saffron. You can attend the second edition of the “Saffron Collection Championship”: a challenge among local producers on the art of picking the magnificent purple flowers. Speed and precision will be the determining factors to establish the best collector of the year!
– From 9:30 to 10:30: Rite of the harvest of saffron in the vegetable garden of the Old Oaks accompanied by Giorgio. Saffron flowers are hand-picked one by one every morning in the month of October. It is important to start this operation early because the flowers are collected when they are still semi-closed so as not to lose even one of the precious red pistils!
– From 10:30 to 12:00: The ritual of “sfioratura” to the Old Oaks. It is a matter of reliving the tradition of removing the 3 red pistils from the saffron flower and putting them all in a sieve. With the heat of the fireplace the pistils are dried and turned into the “red gold”.
Lunch
– From 12:00 onwards: Giorgio and Stefania will offer you some pistils and will make you find in your little house some delicious recipes simple to be prepared. Everyone will bring what he/she cooked or otherwise contribute to lunch, which will represent a moment of conviviality and sharing between us and all our wonderful guests.
Afternoon: Activities at the medieval tower of Fontecchio
– From 16:00 to 17:00: Guided tour of the medieval tower of Fontecchio and the “Space of memory”;
– From 17:00 to 18:00: Demonstration laboratory of natural wool dye curated by Antonella Marinelli at the Torre di Fontecchio (suitable for people of all ages, even children). For the dye you will use saffron flowers and Montepulciano wine.
You will receive an explanatory brochure (for children the material will be prepared in a language suitable for them). In addition, you will get some beautiful samples of already dyed yarn as a gift;
– From 18:00 to 19:00: Demonstration workshop of wool bracelets and necklaces with the finger knitting technique by Lanae.co at the Torre di Fontecchio (suitable for people of all ages, even children). Minimum number of participants 10 people.
Evening:
From 7:30 pm: Dinner at one of the restaurants of the Vie dello Zafferano which offers a complete tasting menu based on Saffron, initiative promoted within “Collect, Meet and Taste 2018″ event.
Sunday, October 28th
Morning
9.00 am – 12.00 pm: Collection of saffron with one of the members of the Vie dello Zafferano (Saffron Roads) and collective “sfioratura”
Lunch and afternoon
From 12:30 onwards: “Collect, get to know and taste 2018” in San Pio delle Camere organized by the Association Le Vie dello Zafferano: traditional street festival with tasting of typical products and dishes based on saffron.

I campi di mais (The Corn Fields)
Corn fields is a dream come true. A place where stories are told with threads that can fill the spaces left empty by the frenzy that has invaded our lives, giving voice to silent memories and giving new life to capacities unused for a long time. The plots are not made of numbers and symbols imprisoned in a squared sheet, but they speak of the color of the pastures in the mountains, the tolling of the bells brought by the echo, the rustling of the trees moved by the wind. Antonella likes to re-emerge stories that envelop people who listen to her and can warm you like a soft cape. She organizes courses, work-shops, demonstrations, cultural and fun-educational encounters for adults (because you never stop learning) and small ones (because you learn how to grow up when you’re a child). Manual activities have always stimulated creativity and imagination, relax the mind, lower heartbeats, throw away anxiety and stress, improve moving skills, help you not to think about the flowing of the time and refocus on your goals.

These two young entrepreneurs have made territoriality the cornerstone of “Lanae.co” managing to create a product (wool and cotton jewels) that enclosed fantasy, attention to detail, that was fashionable, but original and, at the same time, that is linked to the tradition and the territory of Abruzzo in order to help the local economy. They do not use any tools, not even irons or crochet hooks, but only the manual skill of Valentina, who works totally by hand. Also for possible applications, pendants, pendants or inserts, they try to use only natural materials: wood, hard stones, resin.
In addition to bracelets and necklaces they also realize other objects such as: key rings, bookmarks, covers for handles and edges of bags all strictly zero kilometer, entirely in virgin wool, colored with natural colors through a processing that takes place on Abruzzo, from raw material, until the finished product.

Strong and gentle Abruzzo is an association born from the idea of some friends who share the same passion: Abruzzo and historical-environmental-cultural research. Abruzzo is not only a marvelous region from the environmental point of view, being the “green lung of Europe”, or historical, here in this region the word “Italy” was coined and used for the first time and always here, in this the “first capital of Italy” was founded; but this land is also particularly intriguing for all its popular implications, made up of traditions, legends, myths, secrets and mysteries. For those who love research, therefore, this region looks like a “wonderland” unfortunately still little known to many.
